= SMS Gateways for Events =

SMS Events are mapped to your account. Which events you have available will depend on:

* The service types you use
* Which modules and features your business subscribes to
* If your subscription includes TCP events
* If your account is Wholesale or Retail.
* Special cases

By default, all Service providers (wholesale and retail) will have the 'standard events' made available. For each event, an ACTION mapping tells you what the system will do when the event is triggered.

For the purposes of this article, we are concerns with only with Events with the '''SMS''' action.

== Default SMSs - Premium Service ===

A subscription to Emersion's '''SMS Events''' module includes messages being sent by Emersion's premium SMS gateway partner. This premium service provides assurances for subscribers that SMSs have guarantee delivery. This is particularly important for our clients who are bound by the ''''Telecommunications Consumer Protections (TCP) Code'''' who are required by law to ensure messages surrounding usage are delivered in a timely manner.

Subscribers can find the costs per SMS (and volume discount table) in the ''''Emersion Customer Agreement''''. By default, Emersion's premium SMS partner will be used for all SMS events and SMS messages sent via the '''Bulk SMS Out''' feature.

== Alternative SMS Providers ==

For Emersion clients who:

* do not need a premium service
* only require a premium SMS service on some events, but not others
* already have a commercial agreement in place with an alternative SMS gateway provider

Emersion is able to support the use of alternative gateways. While some development effort will be needed to integrate Emersion with an alternative provider, the cost of this is relatively low. Once set up and configured, users can then optionally:

* choose to direct all SMSs via the alternative SMS Gateway under all circumstances
* choose between available SMS gateways whne using '''Bulk SMS Out'''
* Configure which gateway is to be used for each type of SMS event.
** e.g. Use alternative gateway for a welcome SMS (Customer Create) event but use the premium gateway for service usage threshold notifications.

Once you have an alternative SMS gateway available, follow the steps below to alter the SMS gateway for a given SMS event type.
